"All of you veteran orienteers have been out to Topanga many times and may be thinking, "Not another boring course". I have just reviewed Brad Weyer's Advanced course and I can assure you YOU WILL BE VERY PLEASANTLY SURPRISED. It is Brad's first effort and I am amazed how well he has picked subtle features and invented a course which will challenge ALL ADVANCED orienteers. So please support Brad by coming out to this event.
We are offering one Advanced course and a White and Yellow. Lisa Bongi has offered to take on the White and Yellow course designs, and I am excited to see our members taking on these important tasks." - Don Sieveke
UPDATE: W,Y O and one advanced course which will be similar to Green standards
CLOTHING:Cover Up!. Poison oak is common in this park. It will be avoided for the white and yellow courses, but those going on orange and above should take precautions to protect themselves. Also on orange and above there are plenty of stickers and foxtails to protect yourself against. The ranger has also mentioned the possibility of ticks in some of the overgrown areas. Therefore, long sleeves and pants are highly recommended. While the timing of this event is getting toward fall, it can be very warm in this canyon any time of the year so plan to bring adequate water for out on the course.
Parking: -
Parking is always at a premium at Topanga. The closest parking requires a $10 fee (2009) and state park passes are not accepted. There is a small amount of street parking and another fee based lot at the bottom of the hill. Carpool if you can.
