Meet Director/Course Setter Team: Bruce Corning and Kent Schwitkis

A Great Fall Event.

A fun event with very good courses and a very relaxed, family experience.

Vampire-O on Saturday night: we started in the dark with a bright moon, which sometimes hid behind the clouds. We had 8 entries, representing about 20 people. So we had two vampires and an Axe Murder. There were 20 controls (worth 440 points) spread from the CampMaster to the back of the camp (about a mile distant). Prizes were given for most points, most kills, and best victim. As evidenced by the results, the Lane's got the most points, but they also had the most kills. So that Lemon Tort was given to Steve Churchill for getting the second-most points and crashing through the most poison oak. The bestest story was what happened to Scott Moore. Not only did both vampires bite him, but he was "killed" by the Axe Murder as well (Terry had that blood thirsty look in her eye). Scott certainly deserved his Tort.

Sunday event results show that there were several close calls. On Red, Scott Schmitz earned second place by just 2 seconds over Steve Churchill. I guess Steve got worked on Saturday night. On Green, the Cal Tech club was bunched as well; Ann Marie Cody bettered Billy Zdon by 11 seconds, earning 3rd place. It is interesting that the winning times were about the same for each of the advanced courses: Greg Walker on Blue at 1:09:23, Chris North on Red at 1:08:28, Ingvard Jakobsen on Green at 1:08:11, AND Emily Lane on Brown at 1:05:56. Orange took significantly more time; Michael Anderson on Long Orange at 1:29:50, and Chrisopher Mclaughlin on Orange at 1:24:38.

One of the joys of Firestone is the natural aspect. It is a wilderness corridor, and the population and variety of wildlife is unique. This year was no exception. Steve reported sighting a Bobcat, Michelle stumbled upon some deer, and we had a number of Raccoons trying to steal our Halloween candy. I got to see a Magpie, numerous Red-tails, and Turkey Vultures.

I am most grateful to our core members. They pitch in and help, and without this attitude I'm sure our meets would not go nearly as well.

Thanks to all of the volunteers.
