8th Annual Los Angeles Scout Orienteering Meet
Schabarum Regional Park
February 14, 2004
Meet Director/Course Setter - Clare Durand

Almost 200 boy and girl scouts and leaders representing 16 Troops enjoyed a great
day or orienteering competition at Schabarum. The weather was fantastic and
everyone had a great time.

E-punching was used once again. Unfortunately, operational errors resulted in a
delay in the downloading of afternoon results, but the troops waited patiently for
the results and awards. Surprisingly, virtually all winners stuck around to
receive their awards. Despite the delay, awards were completed by the published
time of 4:00pm. Top Honors went to Boy Scout troop 4673 from Los Angeles,
participating in their 3rd scout meet. Their results included the winning team on
the Orange course of Joey and Caleb, who also took third place overall in the
score-O. In addition, their White 1 teams took 2nd and 3rd place in their class in
the score-O.

This year a variety of orienteering and Valentine's Day conflicts brought up the
question of whether the meet should be rescheduled to be off of President's Day
weekend. I am still investigating this possibility and will announce a date for
next year soon. It will be in the middle of February, I'm just not sure exactly
which weekend yet.

As always, a large volunteer crew was necessary to keep the meet running smoothly.
Volunteers included scouts, scout leaders, and regular LAOC members. Thanks to
everyone for helping out.
