VASQUEZ ROCKS, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2010 Event contact and Meet Director : MD: Martin Carr silverfoxdbldeuce at yahoo.com CS: Sue Dekany Enjoy orienteering at one of LAOC's best venues! Located in the high desert, Vasquez Rocks State Park is just a half-hour drive north-east of the San Fernando Valley. Eroded sand-stone plates jutting up at odd angles, volcanic masses, and distorted boulders make for dramatic scenery. Episodes of the original Star Trek, Bonanza, Planet of the Apes, and The Flintstones are some of the productions that have been filmed at this location. Recreational orienteers, as well as hikers and families with children, will find the park great fun to explore. The unique terrain at Vasquez will challenge even experienced orienteers; steering through its numerous rock cliffs requires careful navigating 'close to the map.'
